4.5 from 81 reviews

Tirokafteri is a traditional Greek spicy feta dip made with roasted red peppers, creamy feta cheese, olive oil, and red wine vinegar, blended together with chili for a deliciously smooth and flavorful spread. Perfect as an appetizer or accompaniment to pita bread, vegetables, or grilled meats.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 medium roasted red peppers
  • 1 cup feta cheese (approx. 250g or 8.5oz), crumbled
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar (can substitute with other vinegar)
  • 1 red chili pepper (or chili flakes, adjust to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients. Ensure the red peppers are roasted and peeled. Crumble the feta cheese finely.
  2. Add to Food Processor. Place the roasted red peppers, crumbled feta, olive oil, and red wine vinegar into the food processor bowl.
  3. Chop Chili Pepper. Wearing gloves to avoid irritation, cut the red chili pepper in half and add half of it to the food processor. Process the mixture until smooth.
  4. Adjust Heat and Blend. Taste the dip; if you desire more spiciness, add more chopped chili pepper or chili flakes, then blitz again until the dip is smooth and to your preferred heat level.
  5. Serve and Enjoy. Transfer the tirokafteri to a serving bowl and serve with pita bread, fresh vegetables, or as a condiment for grilled dishes.

Notes

  • Wearing gloves when handling chili peppers is recommended to avoid skin irritation.
  • You can substitute red wine vinegar with white wine vinegar or lemon juice for a different acidity profile.
  • Adjust the amount of chili pepper according to your spice tolerance.
  • Use high-quality feta for the best flavor and texture.
  • This dip can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
