Ingredients

Scale

Bread Batter

  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter (softened)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk

Apple Filling

  • 2 apples (peeled & chopped)
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Glaze

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 3 tbsp milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare the Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan to prevent sticking and ensure easy removal of the bread once baked.
  2. Make Cinnamon Sugar Mixture: In a small bowl, combine 1/3 cup light brown sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Set this mixture aside for layering.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and 2/3 cup sugar until light and fluffy. Then, beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, blending until smooth.
  4. Mix Dry Ingredients and Form Batter: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and baking powder. Gradually add this dry mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, stirring until just combined to form the batter.
  5. Prepare Apple Mixture: Toss the peeled and chopped apples with 2 tablespoons sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon to coat evenly.
  6. Layer Batter, Apples, and Cinnamon Sugar: Spoon half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Layer half of the apple mixture over the batter, then sprinkle half of the prepared cinnamon sugar mixture on top. Repeat these layers with the remaining batter, apples, and cinnamon sugar.
  7. Bake the Bread: Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 55 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bread comes out clean, indicating it is fully cooked.
  8. Cool and Glaze: Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 20 minutes. Meanwhile, prepare the glaze by mixing the powdered sugar with the milk until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bread, slice, and serve.

Notes

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith for a nice balance of sweetness and tartness.
  • Make sure the butter is softened to room temperature for easier creaming.
  • Don’t overmix the batter to keep the bread tender.
  • You can adjust the glaze thickness by adding more or less milk.
  • Store leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • This bread freezes well; wrap tightly and freeze for up to 1 month.
