Scale

Bread Ingredients

  • 2 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 can (355mL or 1 and 1/2 cups) beer, at room temperature
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (½ cup for dough, ½ cup for topping)
  • 1 tbsp Everything Bagel Seasoning Mix (plus 2 tsp for topping, optional)
  • 2 tsp Everything Bagel Seasoning (for topping)

Honey Butter

  • 1/4 cup butter, at room temperature
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1/8 tsp vanilla extract

Herbed Beer Bread Mix (For Optional Variation)

  • 1 tbsp dried minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp dried mixed onion
  • 2 tbsp poppy seeds
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1/2 tsp coarsely ground sea salt

Instructions

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium-sized bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and dried thyme. Stir well to evenly distribute the ingredients.
  2. Add Beer: Pour in the can of beer, at room temperature, and stir just until the batter is combined; avoid overmixing to keep the bread light and tender.
  3. Prepare Loaf Pan: Grease an 8×4-inch loaf pan thoroughly to prevent sticking. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, smoothing the top evenly.
  4. Add Cheese and Seasoning (Optional): If using, fold ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese and 1 tbsp Everything Bagel Seasoning into the batter before pouring it into the pan. Then sprinkle the remaining ½ cup cheddar cheese and 2 tsp Everything Bagel Seasoning on top of the batter once in the pan.
  5. Bake the Bread: Place the loaf pan in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) and bake for 40 to 45 minutes. Bake until the bread is crusty and golden brown on top and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool the Bread: Remove the bread from the oven and let it stand in the pan for 5 minutes. Then carefully remove it from the pan and transfer to a wire cooling rack to cool completely.
  7. Prepare Honey Butter: While the bread bakes, combine the butter, honey, and vanilla extract in a small bowl. Stir well until smooth and set aside.
  8. Serve: Spread the honey butter on warm slices of the herbed beer bread for a deliciously moist and flavorful eating experience.
  9. Store Leftovers: Wrap leftover bread tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate; consume within 4 to 5 days for best freshness.

Notes

  • Make sure the beer is at room temperature to avoid affecting the rising and texture of the bread.
  • Do not overmix the batter as it can make the bread tough.
  • The Everything Bagel Seasoning is optional but adds a wonderful savory flavor and texture.
  • The bread is best eaten fresh but can be stored wrapped in the fridge for up to 5 days.
  • Use a light or amber beer for best flavor results; stout or heavy beers may alter the taste.
  • For a dairy-free variation, substitute butter with a plant-based spread and omit cheese or use a vegan cheese.
