Ingredients

Scale

Meatballs

  • lbs ground turkey
  • ⅔ cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ cup minced onion
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup low sodium chicken broth
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • 1½ tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Mix the meatball ingredients: In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, panko bread crumbs, dried oregano, garlic powder, minced onion, egg, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix until evenly combined. Shape the mixture into 1 1/2 inch meatballs.
  2. Brown the meatballs: Heat olive oil over medium heat in a large skillet. Add the meatballs without crowding the pan, working in batches if needed. Cook, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides. Remove the browned meatballs to a plate.
  3. Prepare the sauce: In the same skillet, melt butter over medium-low heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly to form a roux. Gradually whisk in chicken broth, garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, heavy cream, and dried oregano. Cook the sauce, whisking regularly, until thickened.
  4. Simmer meatballs in sauce: Return the browned meatballs to the skillet, spoon the sauce over them, and simmer for 15 minutes, allowing flavors to meld and meatballs to cook through.
  5. Finish and serve: Season the meatballs and sauce with salt and pepper to taste. Sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley. Serve hot over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice for a hearty meal.

Notes

  • Do not overcrowd the skillet when browning meatballs to ensure even cooking and browning.
  • You can substitute panko breadcrumbs with regular breadcrumbs if unavailable.
  • For a lighter version, swap heavy cream with half-and-half or milk, but sauce will be less rich.
  • These meatballs can be frozen after shaping; thaw before cooking for convenience.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste, especially salt, depending on the sodium content of your chicken broth and Worcestershire sauce.
