This Cheeseburger Pie is a savory, low-carb dish combining ground beef, flavorful onions, and a cheesy almond and coconut flour crust. Baked to golden perfection, it’s a satisfying twist on classic cheeseburgers, perfect for a hearty meal that’s gluten-free and packed with protein.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat Mixture

  • 1 lb ground beef (or venison burger)
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Crust and Egg Mixture

  • 1/3 cup coconut flour
  • 3 tablespoons almond flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1½ cups cheese, shredded (divided)

Optional Toppings

  • 1 tomato, sliced

Instructions

  1. Cook the beef and onions: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onions until the meat is browned and fully cooked, about 8-10 minutes. Drain any excess fat if desired.
  2. Prepare the pie base: Spread the cooked beef and onion mixture evenly into a pie plate. Sprinkle the salt over the meat to season.
  3. Make the batter: In a mixing bowl, combine coconut flour, almond flour, baking powder, almond milk, and eggs. Whisk thoroughly until smooth and well incorporated.
  4. Assemble the pie: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the beef layer in the pie plate. Sprinkle about 1 cup of shredded cheese evenly on top of the egg mixture.
  5. Bake the pie: Place the pie plate in the oven and bake at 400°F (205°C) for approximately 25 minutes, or until the top is set and golden.
  6. Add toppings: Remove the pie from the oven. Optionally, add sliced tomato on top and sprinkle the remaining cheese over the tomato and pie surface for additional flavor.
  7. Final bake: Return the pie to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes, allowing the cheese to melt and toppings to warm through.
  8. Serve: Remove from oven, let cool slightly, slice, and serve warm.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use a mix of cheddar and mozzarella or your favorite cheese blend.
  • Additional toppings such as pickles, mustard, or keto-friendly ketchup can be added after baking for a classic cheeseburger flavor.
  • Using venison instead of beef offers a leaner, gamey option.
  • This recipe is naturally gluten-free and low-carb, suitable for keto diets.
  • Allow the pie to rest for a few minutes after baking to help it set for easier slicing.
