Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Filling

  • 2 chicken breasts, finely diced
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp minced fresh ginger

Asian Slaw

  • 1 bag coleslaw mix (397g)
  • 4 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey

Wonton Cups & Garnishes

  • 16 wonton wrappers
  • Cooking spray or olive/canola oil for baking
  • Sweet chili sauce, to serve
  • Chopped cilantro, to serve
  • Sesame seeds, to serve

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a muffin tin with cooking spray to prepare for baking the wonton cups.
  2. Cook Chicken: Heat sesame oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the finely diced chicken breasts and cook until browned on all sides. Stir in hoisin sauce, soy sauce, minced garlic, and fresh ginger. Continue to cook until the chicken is fully cooked through, about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally to blend the flavors.
  3. Make Slaw: In a mixing bowl, combine the coleslaw mix, thinly sliced green onions, sesame oil, rice vinegar, soy sauce, and honey. Toss everything well until the slaw is evenly coated with the dressing and flavors meld together.
  4. Shape Wonton Cups: Take the wonton wrappers and fit each one into a greased muffin cup, pressing down gently to shape them into small cups. Lightly spray or brush the wonton wrappers with cooking oil to ensure crispiness when baked.
  5. Bake Wontons: Place the muffin tin in the preheated oven and bake the wonton cups for approximately 8-10 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and crisp.
  6. Assemble Tacos: Once the wonton cups have cooled slightly, fill each cup with the cooked hoisin chicken mixture. Top with a generous spoonful of the prepared Asian slaw to add freshness and crunch.
  7. Serve and Garnish: Drizzle sweet chili sauce over the filled wonton tacos. Garnish with chopped cilantro and a sprinkle of sesame seeds for extra flavor and visual appeal. Serve warm and enjoy immediately.

Notes

  • Use fresh ginger and garlic for the best flavor in the chicken mixture.
  • For crispier wonton cups, make sure to spray or brush oil lightly before baking.
  • You can prepare the slaw a few hours ahead and refrigerate to allow flavors to deepen.
  • Serve immediately after assembling to maintain the crispiness of the wonton cups.
  • For a spicy kick, add some sriracha to the sweet chili sauce.
